The French Department in St. Benildus consists of four teachers. French is offered from First Year onwards. Students sit the Junior Certificate in Third Year and the Leaving Certificate in Sixth Year. The French Department aim to provide the students with communicative skills, language awareness and cultural awareness. We also promote learner autonomy by equipping the students with the skills needed to find their own way. We achieve our aims through active student participation in classroom activities including written exercises, listening exercises, games, puzzles, tongue-twisters, song, French film and French Theatre. Resources The Language Room This room is used to prepare for aural and oral work. There is also access to digital television with French, German and Spanish channels so that students can follow current affairs The Technical Graphics Room This room is equipped with computers and headsets. Students avail of computer aided learning provided by two software packages ‘Tell Me More’ and ‘World Talk’. Both of these packages place emphasis on the spoken language. The French Notice-board News items from France and the French speaking world are placed on this notice-board each week.
