ART CURRICULUM IN ST BENILDUS COLLEGE
Art is taught at both Junior and Leaving Certificate level.
At Junior level, for three years, teaching is
structured around a series of modules each lasting about two weeks.
These include: observational drawing. Graphic design, picture making
and composition, model making using a variety of materials and crafts,
usually calligraphy and bookbinding. The Junior Cert. Art Exam consists
of a Project, produced in school time, consisting of three of the above
listed subject modules. A separate drawing examination is worth 25% of
the marks.
Leaving Cert. Students follow a similar programme of instruction but
are assessed not by project work but by their ability to produce design
work, pictorial composition and life drawing in an examination. In
addition,(to satisfy university entry requirements) there is a written
examination in the History and Appreciation of Art which is worth
almost 40%of the marks.
