Science
(Junior Certificate) 2009/2010
Junior Certificate Science may be viewed as
a precursor to and
preparation for three Senior Certificate Science courses: Biology,
Physics and Chemistry. In keeping with a long tradition of emphasis on
the experimental aspects of Science Saint Benildus College follows the
so called 'revised syllabus for Junior Certificate Science'. The
revised syllabus for Junior Certificate Science is assessed, at both
Ordinary level and Higher level, by means of a terminal examination
paper and coursework. The examination paper is allocated 65% of the
total examination marks. 10% is allocated to carrying out and recording
of the thirty mandatory student activities identified in the syllabus.
Evidence of completion of these activities must be presented by each
student at the end of the three year Junior Certificate Science course.
The final 25% is allocated to two seperate investigations carried out
by the student in the third year of the course. The 25% is awarded by
assessing the detailed written reports on the two investigations
carried out by the student.
